The library’s various services are open to all. There is no charge for loaning items from the library. In special cases a deposit may be required.
To borrow books etc. from the library, you have to apply in person to one of the Herning Libraries and be registered as a borrower. Bring identification papers in the form of your Health Insurance Card, driver's license etc. issued by the public authorities and containing your civil registration number (CPR number).
You may use your Health Insurance Card (sygesikringsbevis) as a Library Card. If you do not wish to use your Health Insurance Card in this way, an alternative Library Card can be made out to you on production of valid ID. All library loans are personal. You may only take out items on your own Health Insurance Card or Library Card.
For security reasons you must use a pincode together with your Health Insurance Card/Library Card whenever you use the self-service machines, when making reservations or renewals or when you need to look up your loans status on www.herningbib.dk. You will also need your pincode to access a number of virtual services.
The pincode consists of 4 digits of your own choice. To receive your pincode you must attend the library in person.
If it is necessary to issue a replacement Library Card or if you forget to bring your Health Insurance Card/Library Card, a charge will be payable.
If you lose your Health Insurance Card/Library Card you must inform the library as soon as possible. This will allow us to block any further loans on your card and prevent misuse.
Special Library Cards are issued to institutions etc.
The lending period is usually 4 weeks. Certain item types have a shorter lending period.
The lending period may be extended, provided the item has not been reserved by other users.
If the borrower wishes to extend the lending period via the library website, he or she should do this within the Library's opening hours.
An extension of the lending period is considered a new loan.
All material returned within the library's opening hours no later than the return date is considered to be due returns. It is the borrower's responsibility to return material in due time.
Items out on loan may be reserved. You will be informed by post, e-mail or text message when the item becomes available.
All loans and returns are recorded on computer. When a loan is made, a receipt will be issued stating what has been lent and when it must be returned by. When a return is made, a receipt will be issued stating what has been returned. The receipt is your proof that the items have been returned. Information about each loan will be deleted within 4 weeks of you returning it. With respect to loans under special service schemes, the record may be retained for up to 5 years after return, provided the user has consented to this in writing.
The library’s holdings are theft-protected.
The user is responsible for loaned items. Before taking out an item, the user must ensure that any defects or faults in the item have been noted by library staff. If materials are damaged or lost, the user must pay for replacement. The replacement fee will normally be the cost of purchase to the library plus a supplement for preparing the item for lending. The library may demand replacement of all volumes of a multi-volume work if a particular volume cannot be purchased individually.
The Library cannot be held liable for damages if borrowed library material modifies or damages the borrower's equipment.
Users may be excluded from using the library if loaned items have repeatedly not been returned or they have been returned in a damaged state. Exclusion will be notified in writing, giving 7 days’ warning.
Users who do not behave in a quiet and orderly manner or do not follow staff instructions may be asked to leave the library.
When the material lending period is 6 weeks overdue, the materials are considered lost and an invoice of the fine and fees is sent. The materials may then be returned and fines will be repaid within a period of 5 months. After this period of time return of materials and repayment of fines will only take place in special cases.
Users may take out a subscription to receive an e-mail or text alert 2 days before the expiry of the lending period.
